2022 Explorer XLT
Hi everyone,

I have a 22 explorer XLT (AWD) with about 3500 miles that I purchased almost 2 months ago.

When accelerating, the car seems loud at times. This mostly happens on colder mornings and when the car is not fully warmed. Attaching a clip here of the sound. It’s been hard to record it because it mostly occurs as I’m driving. Just wanted to know if this has been observed by others and what it could be. I have an appointment for the dealership in a few weeks to get this looked at.

Please let me know your thoughts or if you need any other information from me.

Thank you

unfortunately i cant, this has been an issue for me, havent yet figured out why...

in general, engines that are loud when cold are not a large issue, unless the fan is kicking on, etc, but i believe these newer ones are E fans so not a big deal there. when it becomes an issue is when they high idle or knock.... or for diesels when it wont start in the first place since it all gelled over ;) hopefully someone else who can see the video chimes in! sorry bout that

Thank you I appreciate the reply. The sound comes and goes but mostly when it is cold. It does not sound quite right, but I know some of these engines can be on the noisy side too. I will have the dealership take a peak at it too. Just wanted to see if anyone had any insight as well.

Thank you again. Saw your reply on the other thread. I will request the other thread be deleted.

ofc man! i feel like ive heard of these running loud before too. i do know some direct injections can be loud sometimes, but not sure in this case what the specific cause is.

Does it happen in all drive modes? I notice it is one Blue, I think that's 'Normal' mode.... my 4-year old son calls them by the color so I forget the names. I notice some angry engine sounds if I don't go into Red (Sport) when I'm try to get up to road speed at an on ramp. Almost like you are trying to push the RPM past where the engine mode wants to take it, so it's almost like hitting a limiter until the engine is totally warmed up and has been used for a bit.

Just a thought of something to try; I use Sport 99% of the time and have never noticed that sound, but when I do keep it in Blue or Green, it sounds and feels like the engine is being held back by something. And I like to hear the Turbo spool up and go fast!

Thank you. I will try to see if it happens in other modes. I typically drive the car in blue (normal) when I hear the noises. I took a few videos of the sounds the last few days and will end up showing the dealership as well.

Thank you again!
