Selling back this quarters used text books gave me about $250 to spend on mods on the Explorer.

Ive spent some time thinking about my options and have come up with some ideas so far and figured id post and see what y'all think --
I already have cat-back with flowmaster D40 and have drilled the airbox and put in a K&N Drop-in filter.

So here is the list of ideas:
Clear Corners
Grille Insert
Tint the Front S. Windows
Air intake (FIPK or Mac)
Lund rear wind deflector
Underbody Neon
2in Lowering Stuff (Drop Blocks, new shocks)

As you can see its a street explorer, not offroaded at all. I have a JEEP for that (ack did i say jeep?) lol.. the explorer is too new and nice to beat up on the trail :-)

Anyways guys, add to the list, or steer me in the direction of some that i have already listed..

I trust your wisdom heheh :-)

Here are some pics of the X the mods will go on

Invest it in pork bellies and sell the X to buy a mo-ped forget you ever found this sight!

J/K, but that keeps the addiction away.

Thanks ChuckyD.
i made an appt to get the windows tinted - its gonna cost 90 bucks.

i also ordered a LUND Windjammer rear deflector for $55 from summit racing.

So i still have some cash left over hehe, I may save it.. unless anymore of u can offer more suggestions.

LoL taxxman- yes its in addiction haha~

Dude... you got to get the speed grill, that looks hot on your Generation X's

I would definately get a KKM intake. If any dough left, invest in a custom cat back exhaust.

Another approach is to lower it and add the new shocks ( Rdelbrock ISA for lowered Explorers is what I used )

Handeling can be improved with a beefier sway bar and poly vushings.

Do you plan to paint the Wind Jammer to match your truck?

Good luck.......

Chucky D -
is the speedgrille for my model 2 pieces.. 1 for above the horizontal bar with the ford logo, and one for below.. or is it one peice like the other billet grilles and fills in the whole gap. I kinda like the look of the 2peice design..
like this:
Speedgrilles_1.jpg

im not sure if he modified the speedgrille or it comes stock like that. - if it comes this way stock then ill get one.

Aldive -
I have already drilled my airbox and tossed in a K&N dropin filter: if i go with an intake it will probably be a MAC or a Volant - something that replaces the WHOLE Air Tube.
I already have a custom catback - hehe all mandrel bent 2.5in pipe with a flowmaster D40 single out.

I plan to lower it (no more than 2in) and get the EE rear swaybar and some new shocks.. but not quite yet. Im saving about 3k right now to get some 20" wheels and new rubber and once i get those on, then i will do the drop.
The wind jammer painted - well before i ordered it i had read yer post on that and saw pictures and it looked so killer painted. The UPS guy should have the thing to my door today.. and im still undecided. I like the idea of immediate gratification and just installing it right away.. but i dont want it to look tacky in just glossy black and not paint matched. Unfortunatly i leave for CA on saturday and will have no place to paint it while im there (Im in CA for 3 months) so id have to wait all that time before painting it and installing it .. and me, being impatient, dont know if i can wait that long, ya know? lol!
provided i could get the paint today - i could have it completed by saturday? and if i installed it now.. could i remove it paint it and reapply new 3m tape and re-mount it later?

I've got the top part of the speedgrille, still waiting to get the lower part. I agree with you guys, that the speedgrille looks real nice. The only problem is its pretty damn expensive!

Ive seen the kits for 2 seperate grilles. Check out www.stylinconcepts.com i think that have it.

You should at least try to make your own though, you would save a bunch of $$$

Hows that flowmaster sound? And man.... Go get a second estimate on those windows, I got all 6 of mine professionally done for 160.

too late for second estimate- i already got the windows done. I asked around and every person i asked said go to these guys.. there arnt many tint shops in my town.. and not a single complaint about these guys and every car ive seen that had them do the tint looks perfect.

Flowmaster sounds killer- even on my SOHC 4.0L
I have a sound clip of it but its not the best - it doesnt capture how loud and deep it actually is
but heres the link

sounds sweet!

Well i decided to paint the Lund Windjammer to match.
It arrived yesterday and it wasnt a gloss black at all.. it was a matte finish (or satin finish as the box calls it). It was slightly scuffed too.. so ill be sanding and priming and then wait for my order of paint to arrive :-)
It should look REEEAAAAAAALLLY GOOD once its done.

The window tint is complete too.. and it looks great.. i went 35% for the front side windows (dark as legally possible) and it turned out to be just as dark as the rest of the windows with the factory tint- its a perfect match- and im very pleased.

Be sure to take your time and do it right,

Please post some pics when finished.

Good luck.....

some pics of the tint :-)

I just wanted to thank u guys for yer advice here.. im happy with the tint and am happy with the rear deflector :-)
Now i have a few bucks leftover.. i think ill put it towards the Volant Intake :0)

well here are 2 pics

Ahh... problem with the paint! -
apparently Ford ran 6 different batches of the Deep Wedgewood Blue (the color of my X) and the batch information isnt in any of the codes on the door..

so basically i have to go to a body shop to have her painted and matched up with the right color.. if there were only 3 diff. batches.. id say F* it and just choose one.. but with 6- there is too much room for a large mismatch.. looks like im waiting till i get back to oregon to get it painted and mounted

:-/ total bummer - oh well.. it will still look nice when its done.
