255/70 vs. 275/65

I'm looking to go to a little wider tire for my Sport, and I was wondering if this would be sufficent, as well as fitment for the stock 16x7 rim....

My stock size right now is 255/70/16. 275/60/16 offers the exact same heigh, sidewall, circumference...so I wouldn't see any speedo problems.

How would I be as far as rubbing. I'm not sure how wide i can go on a Sport. Would this be alright to do?

I plan on getting different wheels eventually, and I want something with a lower offset as well. I want to bring the wheels out some, as they are tucked under a good but of the flares. What kind of offset/backspacing would get that result? And would't this eliminate any rubbing on the the sway bars?

Yeah, you might rub. My 265/75R16's rub the sway bar at full lock, but they're a 32" tall tire so that probably doesn't help

Yeah, there's a big difference there...these would only about about 30.6" so that may change thing a bit.

I have 275/55/17s and they don't rub

I also am lowered and 4-door, dunno if that makes a difference

I don't know if you're still looking for input on this, but I had 275-60-16 Pirelli Scorpion Zeros and they fit perfect, realized no speedo adjustment, and rode waaay better than the stock 255-70's.

Only downside with going to a 275 wide tire on the stock 16" wheel is that the wheel is narrow and the tire is wide, so you'll still get alot of sidewall flex. Picture the tire being a rubber speaker surround and the wheel being the speaker cone.....get like a piston effect.

Something else to think about: try looking into who makes tires in a 255-65-16. That way you still have your stock width (nice for winter too if you run the same set all year) and goin 255 with the lower profile will still offer plenty of dry grip and improve your handling ALOT. The smaller diameter won't mess with your speedo more than making it read 1-2 mph faster than you're going and you will get better acceleration as well. Have fun!

I actually ended up buying another set of wheels. They're 16x8, so that will help when I go bigger on tires. For now, I'm running the stock tires on them.

What kind? How much back spacing? What model? How much? Where from?

MB Motoring Phantoms, not sure of the backspacing, the offset is -6mm though. Got them at discount tire direct. $141 each.

Anybody have any pics of a LT265/75R16 mounted on a 16x8 rim on a sport, I'm in the middle of choosing which rims I want but I want the tires to stick out more then the stock rims, so that it looks "beefy". thanks guys
