'97 Merc Mountaineer
Hello from W9JGO

I have a '97 Mountaineer and would like to put an NMO mount on the roof. I tried to figure out how to remove the dome light (the one over the back seat). No luck, I was able to remove the lens (easy, snaps out using a small screwdriver at the center of the back edge of the lens itself, not the gray trim ring.) Then I removed the two screws towards the front of the dome light assembly. I could not figure out what else needs to be done. It almost feels like there is another screw towards the back of the assembly, but I can't see one. I don't want to break it!!! Can you help? I used to install commercial two way radios in the early '60s, Boy! cars sure are different now...

Thanks in advance,
73,
John

I would think it would snap out at that point, but don't take my work for it. Hopefully someone else will see this who has removed that before. If you don't see a response in a day or so, maybe try posting in one of the other forums - maybe the lighting forum, as this isn't really "ham radio" related ... yet. ;)

I can't remember exactly, but I want to say there are three.... however i may be remembering incorrectly. If you're sure you've got all the screws out from under the bulbs it does just pull out.

Makes sense

HI, and thanks for responding. I'll take another look tomorrow, weather permitting. It makes sense that there is a third screw, I just didn't? couldn't? see it. It sure feels like there is another screw there after I have removed two of them.

Yep, there are three screws that hold it on. They should be in an L pattern. I dont quite recall, but i think one of them was near/behind a light bulb, making it hard to see

Thank you so much! That definitely confirms what I thought was the case. I do not have good vision and sometimes it makes stuff like that difficult... Maybe now I can get a roof mounted amateur radio antenna installed

Have a great weekend!

Well, since i had a dome light sitting around, i went and grabbed it to take a picture to show where the screws are:

Thanks!!! The one I didn't see was the one at the top of the picture, next to the lamp socket... What a great response! from Serious Explorations ! :)
