Yes,
All Wheel Drive is automatic, there is nothing to switch on or off and you dont really have any control over this. Its nice if you are almost alll onroad. Their are times when it might be kind of crappy out but not bad enough to lock in 4x4 you have the advangte of always having it.
Now for real offroad, 4x4 with a low range transfer case is the only way to go. Really depends on your usage. I have a 4x4 x and my dad bought an AWD Mountineer, he loves his but is almost always on the road.
