Howdy guys, killer site you've got here...
Since I'm the 'mechanically inclined' husband in my wifes circle of friends, I've been asked to do a brake job on a friends Sport Trac (unsure of the year...I want to say '02).
I've done plenty of brake jobs in the past...but only on 4wd or front-wheel drive vehicles where the hub/wheel bearings are separate assembly, and the rotor just slides off.
I was the 2nd banana on a 2wd S-10 brake job many moons ago, and from what I remember: getting new bearings, races, and seals is pretty much mandatory, there is no such thing as too much grease when repacking bearings, and the castle nut MUST be torqued in the proper sequence.
So, considering I'm planning to do this job tomorrow morning, I need some help.
First and foremost, is there anything I need to watch out for on the Sport Trac? I know the general rules of pad & disc replacement (lubing the caliper slide pins, anti-squeak grease, rattle clips, surgical-like cleanliness, etc), but is there anything that will make me go, "What in the h-e-double hockey sticks?"
Second, I've heard that some rotors already come with the bearing races inside them...is this true for the Sport Trac, did they come from the factory that way?
Third, just what is the proper torque sequence for the castle nut?
Fourth, if I could get a diagram of how all the front bearing components go together, that would make me do cartwheels in a pink tu-tu.
Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
