And would I have a solid axle in the front and if so should i run coils or leafs?, i have heard good and bad thigns about both concerning flex and the sort, any kind of help would be greatly appreciated.

Stu...
You have a lot of options for converting your truck to 4WD. The easiest would be using all stock parts. Converting a 2nd gen to 4wd is all bolt in.

However, if you have the time and money to go SA... there are tons of threads here and about 6 2nd genners who have done this conversion in the last two months. I'd research the heck out of it and figure out just how serious of an offroader you want to build. :D

I'm going to be doing this conversion also. I'm just going to buy a donor vehicle from a salvage yard and strip it of all the front drivetrain bits. I'm also going to be swapping in the V8 and tranny. Most of it shoulb bolt right in, as the front half of all X's are the same, regardles of 2dr or 4dr.

I have done it twice. Make sure you find a good sorce for parts and deside how you want to do this. With a Manual T-case or Elec. Do a search with my User name for info on my two early model 4x4 conversions. You will find some good info.

I still have my whole TTB assembly from when I did my Solid axle swap if you are interested in it.

Good luck with your project.

just my opinion.. i think that converting it now would be hard on your vehicle.. how many miles.. and whats the year on that puppy? if its an older X it might be a good idea to swap it out for another X wit 4wd on it already.. it could save the pain and suffering. However if you have mods on the X you own now it might be less of a hassle to just put the 4wd on it. i have two X's both 94's both xlts ones 2wd and the other is 4wd they are both priced almost the same without all the mods on the 4wd.. so it may be just as easy to private sell your existing and private buy an X of the same model and year. just my 2 cents.

GL on the converion
