2wd with beefy tires... good idea or not?

I have a 4x2 with the 4.6L V8 and a couple performance mods. I go to the beach a lot and I'm always finding myself stuck in soft sand and its getting old. Ive been looking for a 4x4 V8 in my area but Texas has so few its hardly worth looking.

So, my question is: Would it be worth it to invest in some beefier tires to help keep me from getting stuck all the time? I know nothing can beat a 4x4 but its just not realistic for me to get one right now.

I was thinking about getting a set like this if I do anything...

bigger tires shouldnt cause any issues except slower acceleration and worse mpg. im partial to BFG's myself.

Make sure you stick with an all terain for sand.

The Interco Truxs STS are supposed to be great sand tires.

The wider the foot print the better as well. A wider tire will float on the sand instead of sinking.

Those look awesome but im still going to be doing mostly street driving... plus id prefer to keep the stock 18" wheels to save me cost. that meabs the size im looking for s around 285,275,265/65/18.

any ideas anyone? I jsut need something to fit my stock setup and not get me stuck in the sand. ive heard I can run 33" fine so thats what Im aiming for.

bfg's work great!< I took mine off roading in the sand this weekend for the first time, and never any problem, i could roll anywhere i wanted, and it was some really deep sand on the east coast!

It does help alot from not getting stuck I put 32x11.50s on my 92 and hardly ever got stuck unless i was trying to do the impossible....also i had them on my 99 and i never had any problems...the only thing i couldnt do was a burnout...and the gasmileage wasnt horrible...I couldnt even really tell

Do you have a limited slip differential? if not you may want to look into one of the aussie lockers for the diff.
