alright, enough is enough...im sick of only havin 2wd...i really, really want 4wd. anyone know how to make that happen? ive got a 2000 limited automatic. i read on the explorer4x4 site about how to do the conversion for 91-94 manuals, but i cant find any info for the second gens. or automatics. im tryin to do research, so any info would be helpful. the only other option is to find basically the same car at a used car dealer and "switch" it out...but i imagine that will be just as hard

A 2x4x8?

Anyway, pretty much, it's a bolt up swap. You either have to get all the parts from a junkyard or find a whole truck cheap at like an auction.

Junkyard or wrecked 4wd is your best bet, your going to need alot of parts, it wont be cheap either but i can certainly be done. Hardest/most expensive part will be either getting a 4wd transmission or swapping the outputshaft/extension housing on your current transmission.

any guess on general price? and once i have all the parts, do you know how long that actual install might take? i should have a good two weeks straight this summer, probably more...would that be alright?

depends on how much you want to get it done..... 2 weeks for me would be nowhere near enough time, and i am pretty mechanical....

it would probably be easier to jsut sell the 4x2 and buy a 4x4 there is a lot of work involved... its basically, tearing apart your truck and replacing it with the guts of another..... look what section525 did... he has a 96 explorer 4x2 mounted on a 98 awd chassis

hmmm...bummer...id rather keep the ex, cause if i had to go through the trouble of sellin it, i might as well get an EB or somethin like that...maybe ill just build it up as is and plan on doin the conversion sometime in the future...are the all going to be as complicated as section525's?
