This is kind of odd to me that I hit 26.1 MPG coming from a shell gas station off of 198 and traveled along 95 North. Then I hit like 5 stop signs and accelerated a bit. How is it possible? I used to have horrible fuel economy. This really comes at a surprise. Is this too good to be true or do I have the wrong instrument reading? I also did notice when I tried accelerating, my RPMs stayed below 2000 RPM but the power was really good and the Explorer shifted right before it tried to pass 2000. I really don't know what it is. What I'm saying is, how is this happening? Especially since I have the 4WD which is rated at 23.

Whatever it is I guess, I'm really surprised at how fuel efficient this car is. I guess if you drive it soft, it really does give you good fuel economy. Although, I was traveling like 65 - 75 on the highway. Anyone else getting amazing fuel economy?

Was it all downhill with a tail wind ?!? :)

MOST mfg mpg displays are suspect at best and only used as a reference point...
out of all my cars/trucks/etc... only a few have been correct ..

enjoy the ride as your best mpg is when you don't go anywhere !

I've achieved 33 mpg (CDN) a few times at 80kmph (50mph) with the cruise control on over an 8 mile stretch. That would work out to about 26.4 mpg on a U.S. gallon. No stops or starts though except for the initial start.

The best I have seen so far is 23.1 mpg and that was on a 4 hr highway drive doing about 72-74 mph most of the way. I would guess that you need to get the average over the whole tank to get a better picture of what you are really getting. If you watch that one display that does the instant fuel economy display sometimes it shows me getting in the 30s, which is a joke cause I am rolling down hill without any acceleration.

My display consistantly registers about 1.5 miles per gal. better then if I figure it manual doing the math. You may be getting 24.3 really, which is good, and what is expected from highway driving....Either way, I'd just be happy....I hope your average does'nt drop since you did'nt drive very far......best regards Plum

Mine is just the opposite. I get around 1 - 1.5 mpg better when figuring it manually than what the display on the dash shows. Has been like this since day 1. No way I am complaining, just observant.;)

Here in Chicago you can get stuck in a 45 MPH contruction zone with speed cameras. When this happens I notice my mileage goes up to 25 or so MPG.

When I am driving around 45 mph, I notice on my installed Ultra-Gauge, that I get exactly what the Ford instantaneous says, which is anywhere between 30-34 mpg. Try it and see.

I'm really impressed by these numbers. I guess the EPA's rating isn't really the max but in reality, you can actually do better than the EPA's numbers. This is one fuel efficient V6.
