Would restricted flow through a filter throw an error code on my Ranger.?
My filter sits to the rear a little so when I take it off I usually get some spill out. When I took it off to change it the central cavity was clean, but it was bottom heavy with sediment because it was heavier than the new one.
I use 5w20 synthetic with a Fram wearguard.
Talked to a mech and he says he's seen some bad filters. He said I could check the flow by starting the engine without the filter for a second. He says it should squirt out strong. He said he didn't know if a flow problem to the filter would throw a code.
Wouldn't a restricted flow prevent oil to the mains, valve lifters and crankshaft in general.? Engine seems to run OK. Does this engine run on a bypass circuit if problems?
Truck has 75K on it and changed every 5 K.
Thanks all!
Andy
