I have a basic '91EB that needs new tires. Plan on the Michelin LTX A/T as they get great reviews. Basically stay on the asphalt, but want a slightly larger tire that looks better than the anemic 235s.

In looking at many posts - appears that 30x9.5s with stock EB rims (15x7) would fit easily. Hard to know if the 31x10.5s would fit? Some say yes, others no? A little rubbing at full wheel lock or full compression would not be a problem. Mixed comments on how the 31 looks in the '91 wheel opening (smaller than later models). Does it look to "full"? I don't really want to have to add a lift.

Any and all comments/feedback welcome

Jeff,

I just put 31x10.5 BFG AT ko's on my 2wd 91 EB last week and have no rubbing problems. My personal opinion is that my wheel wells look a little full so I am going to start with the coil spring spacer and shackle lift. (about 1.5) From there who knows where I'll end up as I am already looking at the JD lift.

Best regards.

Jeff-I have a 91XLT with no lift and running 31" BFG Longtrails on stock 15x7 rims. No rubbing. I think the larger tires look much better than the 30's I was running. It gives the truck a more aggressive look and fill the wheel well much better. I might go with a small lift, possibly a inch to inch and a half by using progressive coils and add a leaf from Performance Parts. It'll be much later though since I am currently experiencing no rubbing. Good luck with your '91EB.

From what I can tell about this issue it all depends on your springs and if you have sway bars installed or not. We had 30" tires on 15x8 rims (yokohama geolander MT) with Rancho Rs9000 shocks set on 4 with no sway bars. With this combination and 160k miles on the springs we could get the truck all twisted up. There was no way a 31" tire would fit unless we kept it on road. We may have gotten away with it if we left the sway bars on but that hurt our off-road performance too much. So.. If your springs are not sagging and you stay on road 31's should fit fine. If you leave your sway bars on and go off-roading you might be able to get away with it. Best thing to do is to either borrow a set or it test fit before you buy it.

Go with 31's; I ran them Stock and the only rub I got was when backing out of my drive way and FULL LOCK turn. My best tires to date; BFG/AT'S (I'm on my 4th set-BFG,M/T, muds & a/t,etc)

it really depends on whether or not money is an issue. if you can deal with your tread wearing down rather quickly and just buy a new set of tires then sure go with the 31's but you wont experience any rubbing with the 30's on or off road.
