Its been awhile since ive been here, classes seem to take most of my time. But finally im starting to try and get my explorer back off-road. Ive decided to go with some BFG A/T KOs, in the 30 x 9.5 R15 size and keep the stock rims for now. BTW, Ive got a 95 XLT 4x4. Ive looked into getting the tires and had several places tell me that it is a bad decision. I know that the larger stores are just feeding me BS, but some of the smaller ones say that the truck will just not run well with those tires, esp. since its a 95. Are they giving me crap? Has anyone in a similar situation run these tires and can give me any pros/cons for them. Thanks a ton guys!

They're feeding you crap, 30x9.5 is barely larger then the tire you have now. You can run 31x10.5 with a stock suspension and wheels, a lot of people around here have that setup. You'll be fine with 30x9.5's. The 95+ Eddie Bauers with 16' wheels run a tire bigger than the one you are looking at right now (255/70R16). They have a a 30.1x10 tire, the 30x9.5's are actually about 29.5 inches tall rather than 30, metric is a more accurate measurement. Don't listen to them.

What Problems?

I have a '95 explorer 4x4 and run the 30x9.5 BFG All Terrains. I have had no problems what so ever, in fact I am going to run 31's when these wear down. I don't know what kind of stuff they were telling you about, but I think they ride great. Granted they will be louder than the stock tires just because they are more aggressive, but not at all unbearable, just a gentle hum down the road. You will have no problems what so ever with those tires and that set up.

Go with the 31x10.50, they look so much better and they give you alittle bit more ground clearance. They will fit with no problem. I have the KO's and i love them. They hold centers really good because of the sidewalls. They are louder then the creapstones, but nothin like mudders. Just my .02

they told me the same crap, Sears mngr told me cant run the bfg t/a ko because they have "too much traction on dry pavement" and "anything larger than 235/75/15 would never fit" even though i was already running 31x11.50x15 goodyear wrangler a/t. recently put on 32" bfg t/a ko and so far i have really liked them.

Go with the 31s dude. I put the 30s on mine in September and now wish I had've taken the 31s.

Don't worry, they told me the same thing. The guy at the dealership even got a fake asthma attack when I asked him to quote 31x10.5 I'm running now 31X10.5 BFG MTs with my 1:3.55 gears and in the 6'000 miles I have done so far with this set up no problems what so ever.

I have the 30X9.5 on my truck now. I think there is a total of about 1/2" diameter difference between what you have now and the 30's. In hindsite I would have gotten the 31's though.

Easy fit! Go for the 31s!

Piece of cake! Go to Discount Tire or America's Tire and have them test fit some for you. I went to one in the PalmSprings area and the guy was just as excited as I was to try the 33" Dunlops that I ended up getting.
