I know 410Fortune will be here sooner or later, but I'd like everyone elses opinions as well. BTW, kudos to the admins for putting up with my multiple threads. Hope they're in the right spots!

I have a 4.0L OHV and 4R55E trans in my 1996 XLT. As with everything about this vehicle, any tranny/engine swaps are hard to find because the 95-96 and 97-01 differences in 2nd gen X's. Fear not! I plan to remedy these (in due time).

Basically, I'm wanting a 5-speed tranny, and 410Fortune has pretty much talked me into a 302. Tranny looks like it's going to be a M5OD-R2. Any suggestions on what vehicle to get this out of? I'm looking for the best bang for my buck. I'm a Senior in high school, so obviously cash isn't a fast flowing river for me. It's more like a babbling brook! Bolt on is preferred as always. From what I've read, the R2 will bolt up to a 302 and shift 'er true.

What parts will I be looking for, and what suggestions for maintenance when looking at this transmission? Do I need to rebuild it, or just replace the slave and find a compatible starter? Pretty much, what do I need to get to convert my 96 to a 5-speed?

Also, I'm going to swap in a 302. Same as above. Suggestions for vehicle, maintenance, and parts I'll need to make it compatible with my X.

Remember, 95-96 was special. No PATS!!!!!!!

Regards

Irrelevant.

Anything pre-98 didn't have PATS. Its the donor computer you need to worry about. You want to get one pre-98 if you don't want to mess with the PATS.

Trans will need to come from a 5.0 f150 years would be up to 96 but I couldn't tell you much else whether one year is better or not.

Thanks for all the help so far guys!
