So I did find a few posts saying that a 302 swap can be done without a body lift. You would just have to hack up the heater box. So here is my question. Is that the only thing that gets in the way of a 302 swap without a body lift? Do I not need to worry about tunnel clearance? I just want to make sure before I get my bumpers put on. I don't want to have to mod them again if I do indeed need a body lift. They are used bumpers off an XJ in case you were wondering. I would much rather do the BL and mod the bumpers to fit now, instead of having to do it later on down the road. I would like to stay away from a BL if at all possible though.
Thanks,
Pahelo

Here is what 410fortune said to me when I PM'ed him a really similar question:

"A body lift is not required, there are several things you can do to help, like use L&L engine mounts and make extensive mods to the heater box and a few small mods to the transmission tunnel at the firewall.
There is basically no difference between the underhood of a BII and a 97 Explorer :)"

I plan to do the swap without a body lift as well. :)

Cool. Thanks a ton. That is exactly what I needed to know.
