Hi everyone, I'm new to this message board and this is my very first post.

I've done some searching through the previous messages and gotten some really good info, but I thought I'd post my specific plan here and see if anyone can tell me what problems to expect.

I have a stock "94 X with an Automatic Tranny. My current, tentative plan is the following:

James Duff 2 1/2" Lift
American Racing AR767 15x8" Rims w/ 4" Back Spacing
32x11.5" BFG All-Terrain TA Tires

Here are my questions:
1. With the 4" Back Spacing and 2 1/2" lift should I expect any rubbing?

2. Should I expect a significant power loss or will I be OK with my stock gearing for a little while?

3. At full compression, will I still get fender rub without some kind of body lift or will the suspension lift do the job?

I live in South Jersey so most of my off-road driving is in the Pine Barrens (sand and mud puddles).

Thanks for any input!

Ed

What is your current gearing? We need this to be able to tell you what to expect.

In general though, you will always experience some power loss when you go with bigger tires. Your gearing and how big you go determine how much.

gearing

The gearing is Stock. I'm not sure but I thought I've seen people post stock gearing on my truck as 3.75 or something.... although I'm not 100% on that.

On the sticker on the drivers side door jam, look at the code that is written under axle. Then post it here and someone should be able to tell you what you are geared at.

The reason is because 3.27, 3.55, 3.73, 4.10 were all "stock" gearing options. There isn't just one gear ratio that was used on all Explorers.

Ed,
First, Welcome! If your truck is nearby, take a look at the Axle Code on the sticker in your doorjamb. Write it down and run a search for axle codes, then you can find out exactly what you have.

Ahh, the clouds roll back for me! Ok, the Axle code is D4, which I checked and I think is 3.73.

Thanks for the welcome and the clarification!

You probably will rub, especially under compression and turning. But it shouldn't be too bad, and you can probably trim a bit without it being noticable.

What do you think of the Duff kit? It seems to be a decent kit and it is only around $500. All the other kits I've seen run close to $1000.

Is there any sites with instructions on trimming, like the best tools to use and some things to watch out for? Once you cut, I suppose you ain't puttin' it back on with Elmers Glue huh? :-)
