Anyone ever used 3M Scratch remover? I've got a couple lines in my paint's clearcoat and I was hoping to just manually buff them out with this stuff? I think it is just buffing compound.... (Instructions say to use a quarter-sized amount on 2 sq foot area and buff until it gets hard, and then to wipe it off)

Says "For swirls and fine scratches"

Anyone know what to expect or want to caution me on using it?

pretty much what it says. FINE scratches. If your fingernail catches in the scratch then that stuff wont make it go away.

The scratches cannot be grabbed with my fingernail, i think they are just in the clear coat. I tried it and it diminished them somewhat, is it safe to do multiple times? Doing it once, followed by 3 coats of Turtle Wax Ice and now you cant see the scratches without getting like 6 inches away.

I also just noticed that I have literally 20+ itty bitty chips (i.e. down to the metal) in the front paint. I guess it is from hitting really big bugs driving really fast. Is there anything I can do for that? It wouldnt be a big deal if there were 1-2 but there are literally 30 all on the hood/next to the chrome....

Also, I don't suppose there is anything that can be done for small abrasions in the chrome?

Man, I literally think it is impossible to keep paint perfect and a car perfect for more than 2-3 drives after you buy it.

I don't know of a bug that can chip paint down to bear metal. That's probably from small rocks, or perhaps bugs transporting small rocks in miniature slings on their backs.

The fine scratches you can use a fine compound on or continue with the scratch remover. I wouldn't go too heavy on it, but you should be able to make them almost invisible.

I have to agree. I have never seen a bug that can know the paint down to the bare metal.

I have never used that stuff before but I am sure that it is a decent product and normally if the scratches are not that bad then you can buff them out.

bug guts and bird doodoo can eat through the clear...
