Hello people! I would like to disable my auto 4x4 in my 2004 Ford Explorer XLT. Reason is, it simply has been bothering me because there's no need for it in normal conditions in my opinion. I thought about pulling the fuse or running a switch to the fuse line but I don't know if that can cause problems. In the manual it says just 4x4 all alone on one fuse... Can anyone help me please?

my understanding was that the brown wire mod was for the 2nd gen because the v8 are all wheel drive where as our 3rd gen are automatic 4x4. So unless your tires are slipping you are in 2wd . That's just my thoughts

Second Gens also had automatic 4wd. (V6). No way to disable AWD on a Second Gen V8, aside from pulling the front shaft.

I would think there’s surely a ‘brown wire mod’ for the Third Gens, it just might be a different wire or location.
