4.0 Exhaust Clip Thread !

There are a few members who have had the 70 series, Paraphoe is one, but alot of others have gone with the 50. I don't have experience with any of them, but I would think the 70 since it is has more chambers than the 50 would be quieter.

previous owners of my 01 sport had the 70 series and it sounded to quiet now i got the 40 series and big difference in sound

i had the 40 series and will never buy a flowmaster again, i currently run no muffler and it is perfect! loud but not if you keep your foot out of it...

try magnaflow they seem to be alot more freeflowing and significantly louder.

I mean what exactly are you looking for? I found the 50 series to be too ricey on the 4.0 SOHC and went with the Super 40 series. The super 40 with all stock piping will sound good and have a little interior drone, but due to delta flow not too much.

I'm just looking to give it a little more rumble but nothing excessive. Just a little louder than stock when you aren't on the gas but a nice noticeable tone when you need to put your foot down.

has anyone made there exhaust come out right infront of the back tire?

I've done a dump under my truck at the muffler. It's not the same as what you're describing, but it's a muffler exit before the rear axle. I quickly changed to a rear exit pipe as the interior drone was too much

i have had both my setups out the right side in front of the tire. Currently no muffler just the cats. Sounds great.

I've done with no muffler. Its cool for a few days til you can't think straight cause it is so loud inside. I did it with 2 "U" bends clamped together with a turndown pointing out to the side kind of like the side pipes on the old corvettes. Didn't look too bad, didn't sound too bad.... for a while.

well i gone and done it.
Today i went to Competition muffler and bought a 40 series flowmaster.
Got it installed to.
Sounds nice at idle and then a bit but not as loud as i had expected, oh well good enough def sounds different.
They wouldnt put my exhaust in front of my back wheel because its illegal and the exhaust has to exit over the rear axle Here in sask i guess.

Does anybody heve evperience with any systems with some Headers, and a glasspack to replace the muffler? Just looking for some extra flow an a clean note.

From what I read, the stock manifolds flowed well for our motor so I never bothered to invest in changing them. I don't know if I'd stick a glasspack on any V6. Probably a Flowmaster or magnaflow muffler replacement and youll be set

There are plenty of people that have glasspacked mufflers on v6's. They actually sound pretty good on a SOHC, not like the buzzy v6's of past...

It all boils down to personal opinion, and it's tough to tell what these different options actually sound like online. There is so much more to recording sound then just sticking your camera at your tailpipe. With the proper mike setup you could make almost any exhaust sound good.

Understood. A digital camera won’t fully capture the sound of an exhaust, but it gives you an idea of what to look for. Hard to get the full effect anyway on a pair of computer speakers and stock sound card

The SOHC is a higher pitched, whinier motor. I personally am not a fan of glasspacks on V6’s period, but to each their own.

Alright guys, with my next paycheck i want to buy a muffler. Idk what to get, but im thinking either a flowmaster delta flow 40 or preferably something cheaper, however i dont want a ricer sound or extremely loud. Anyway, has anyone ever heard of "Thrush" mufflers or know anything about those? I hear they are good and cheap like 40 bucks shipped

sounds gooe mercury

and bax 40 series are loud and deep i got them on my 01 sport

alright ill keep that in mind. the only thing is that the "thrush" mufflers are flowmaster knockoffs for 60 bucks a could save.

***And for anyone who could answer this i would be soo happy***
ok, so my ex (which is probably like many of yours) exhaust is new. the guy i bought it off of was a family friend and got the muffler replaced with im guessing another stock replacement one. anyways its a 4.0 soch and the muffler on it now is 2" dual in/dual out. So how should i go about this new muffler? A Ypipe thats 2 into 2.5 then just run a straight 2.5 pipe out the back? Or would i have a problem with back pressure?

any info/ suggestions here would be great thanks :)

I went with a 40 series dual in dual out on my SOHC and the interior drone is getting unbearable.

Can anything be done to quiet it down other than a new muffler? I don't want to spend any more money since I paid $300 for the dual tailpipes. Would a single outlet quiet it down? I cut the big 3.5" tips off and have 2.5" turndowns exiting the bumper.

Thanks
