Just wanted to know what it sounds like, because alot of the cars/trucks (with V6's) I see that people put nice mufflers on, sound like a ricer. I mean, I figured it wouldnt sound the same as my 86 MC SS, but I also dont want it to sound like alot of the others that sound like they have no muffler.

Id rather not spend the money to get a Flowmaster 40 serios, and find out it sounds like crap on the Explorer.

guys who arent running cats are you getting a check enginr light and is gas milage better or worse

Which muffler for stock 98 4.0 2door OHV?

I want to switch out my muffler on my 98 Explorer Sport 2 door OHV. 4.0 V6

I have an aftermarket air intake system (K &N Filter straight metal tube into the intake) Stock exhaust.

From what i've read I want to keep the resonator in the tail pipe.

Looking at flowmaster 40 series. Or maybe 50 series suv

I want a nice rumble, not sound like a ricer when I hit the gas. Want to keep everything stock but switch out the muffler.

Any ideas?

Thanks y'all and Happy New Year!

IMO, both of those mufflers would sound rice on a 4.0.

Thanks that's what I'm afraid of, is there anything out there for a 4.0? or am I screwed since I have a V6?

i got single in and dual out 40 series flows on my 01 sport i need to get a sound clip of it eventually.

You're best bet is to listen to sound clips on youtube use keywords like "explorer exhaust" and similar to find what you're looking for.

Monday I'm stopping up to my mechanic to ask which inlet/outlet configuration i should go with for my dynomax super turbo muffler. There is no dual in/single out, and the only center to center is 3". I'm guessing it'll be that with adapters, or the offset inlet that has the same diameter piping I need. I'll try and snag a clip whenever I get it on.

Late reply I know, but when I had my sport, same year and engine as yours, the best sound I got out of it was with the Cherry Bomb Pro. Similar sound to the FM 40, but it sounded slightly better to me. I ran mine with 2.5" pipe. I also hollowed out the rear cat, but I don't think it made much of a difference in sound. There should be sound clips in this thread and all over youtube of my old truck with that setup.

The super turbo is a reversible muffler, except for the crossflow models used on camaros. Look into part number 17758.

Thanks. I searched all over their site looking for somewhere it said they are reversible, but I couldn't.
