I've searched to no end, so I am asking here.

Does the 4.0 OHV share any similarities to the 3.8? I have a split-port top end that I would like to swap onto the 4.0 if it will fit. I am having trouble finding specs and I'm wondering where the increased displacement comes from if they share a block. I'm guessing stroke, so the deck height is probably increased? Thanks in advance.

I don't know if it will fit or not but it's going to take some custom fab work as far as the throttle cable, cruise control cable since the throttle body is on the front on a split port.

I doubt you will see any gains to even make it worth the effort.

Truck was free, parts were free, so I figured why not. I just can't find any dimensions on the 4.0L.

the 3.8 and 4.0 are completely different.

They are different seires motors..

the 3.8 is not from the same series as the 4.0 (cologne series).

the 4.0 ohv series had displacement sizes of 1.8, 2.0, 2.3, 2.4, 2.6, 2.8, 2.9 and 4.0.

From what I can find, the 3.8 is an essex series. I didn't look much into it since its not a motor series I have in any of our ford vehicles. (only have the 385 series and the cologne).

I understand that, but it doesn't mean it can't work. Ever see a 4V Volvo head on a 2.3? A Cleveland (canted valve) head on a Windsor?

it wont work for a number of reasons, but if someone was to put enough time and money into adapting the 3.8 stuff i guess you could make it work... For one the 3.8 is a 90* block and the 4.0 is a 60*

Thanks. That was a concern, but for some reason, I can't find any dimensions either aside from bore x stroke.
