Hi peeps,
I just went to a local scrap yard and paid $166.93 for a 4.0 from a 92 explorer (what a steal) The motor is now in peices on the garage floor waiting to go to the machine shop for some boring.
any sugestions for what i can but in this new mill for camshaft, lifters, etc.
I have never done a engin befor so some help would be a good idea i think.
P.S. can ya say MORE POWER?

Why not be the first guy to turbo a 245? When you supercharge you sacrifice mpg's, unlike a turbo. For more power you can port the manifolds and you will see very generous hp gains.

twin-turbo 4.0 V-6....... sweeeeet!

if you go for a nice twin-turbo setup, check out the Garrett turbochargers. lots of boost with no noticeable turbo lag.

maybe in a year or two i will think about a super or turbo but for now a stout rebuild is all i am looking for, its going to be a piece of the puzzel that is my explorer... does that make sense? i only wish forged pistons were not so damm expensive.
any one think of a good cam yet?

Hotwheels. Gosh, $167 for a 92 Explorer from a junkyard! Is such a price in any way typical for junked Explorers - even with "toasted" engines?

NO most junk yards want $900.00 for a complete long block with 200.000km, this motor had 340.000km showing on the odometer but once inside i found the only thing wrong with the motor was hammerd push rods and a bit of gunk in the oil pan.

Currentley my explorer has 243.000km on it so a rebuild is a must as the last 30.000km were hard on the old beast, still need a cam idea!
