hey all. i don't get a chance to post much, but figure this is worth mentioning.
I have a 37,000 miles 2000 Sport. I bought it at 34k w/ extender warranty.
It had the 0012 done at 30,000 miles according to the OASIS report. Sine I got it, the engine has been making a terrible rattling noise from 2-3k under light to 1/4 throttle in any gear. It started about 5-10 mins after it was cold, and lasted for as long as I drove.
The noise was so loud and repeatable, I figured I would have no problem with getting the TSB done. (08-2-1 replaces the guides, tensioner, timing cassettes, etc on the front). btw, the service bulletin described my problem 100% as it was happening)
I was wrong. I went to 2 dealers who both told me I was nuts, and that was 'normal'. I even got the shop forman to come out, and he told me the noise was 'not loud enough to warrant looking into?" It was so loud, anyone who got in my explorer asked 'what the heck is wrong with your car?'
wtf is that all about? I went to a 3rd dealer, and they said the same thing. 'nothing wrong'. I finally had it, and called the service manager to complain. She took a ride and heard it immediately. Without hesitation, she gave me a rental and said let me keep it for a few days.
They tore the motor down, and sure enough, the guides were a mess along with the related components.
I just got it back today, and it's super-quiet. Sounds like a brand new engine. The good news is, supposedly the replacement parts have been modified to prevent the issues from happening. Only time will tell.
They claim it happened because the motor went too long before the 0012 was performed.
Whatever the case, I am glad it's fixed. I am angry I had to spend so much time and effort convincing these dealers that the TSB was the problem.
anyone else have an experience like this? The noise/problem never changed from dealer to dealer. I simply think they just don't care until I put on the 800 pound Gorilla suit. It's a bummer it has to be like that.
