Thanks to all that replied. I think I'll probably try supercharging mine, if it's not too expensive. I already got 40K miles on my ex and I hope that's not a problem. I've always used fully synthetic oil with my engine if it makes any difference. Has anybody out there already done it, and if so, how satisfied were you? What increase in horsepower and accelaration can I expect? I was wondering if Ford had a DOHC 4.0 with 24 valves it used in a different line of vehicles.
A few people have supercharged their explorers, I turbo'd mine.
I'm actually getting very near to completition on my project. My heads are being shipped back to me today, as well as my rods and pistons, and I get to go pick up my crank today as well. All I need are my injectors which I'm getting on monday, and my camshaft which will be here monday, and the MAF should be here anyday. I'm hoping to maybe have my ride up and going at the end of next week. Of course there will be break in time and what not.
Then i should be running up round 22lbs of boost or so.
By the way supercharging it, isn't "cheap". But expect like a 50-70hp increase, i think. Maybe a bit more/less, haven't really payed much attention to numbers. When I put my turbo on, it was like having a whole different car. The ricers were lessed then pleased to have an Explorer on 35's beat em off the light.
*note (these were of course, just lowered hondas running on their 4 cylinders, those who think ground efx and paint make them go faster)
I'm as, excited as ever, let me tell you. The only thing I'm worried about now, after doing all this, is my tranny. The engine will be brand spanking new. But, until AA finishes their adapter, I gotta hope the tranny lasts the beating I will be giving it. Then slap that 700r4 under there. I don't expect my tranny to last longer than 2 months, hopefully that's long enough for AA to finish up!
I think I'm going to go with the supercharger as soon as I have some money saved up.. I just spent 3 grand at the Ford dealer replacing my tranny that mysteriously failed at 40K miles. I tried contacting Ford on the issue but they denied me any assistance since my warranty just went out.. nevertheless, it is really lame that I had to replace my transmission at such low mileage.
