This may be a dumb question that has been asked before but what kind of power and fuel milage differences are there between the 4.0 and the 4.6. I have the engine out of mine right now. Debating if I want to put new head gaskets and timing components on the 4.0 I pulled out of it, or rebuild the locked up 4.6 in my parts truck and do a v8 swap. Or buy another parts truck with a good 4.6 in it. Obviously the v8 is gonna have more power, but how much exactly? And how much worse fuel mileage does the v8 get? If any. Reliability is a concern also. Which would be better in the long run?

Not sure it's cost effective. You'd need a new computer (or have it tuned perhaps,) new engine bay wiring harness, a V8's transmission and a rack and pinion for the V8. It would be cheaper just to buy one with a V8 in it.

Mileage is basically the same and depends a lot on the driver. Someone will post the window stickers.

For me, the slightly lower MPG of the V8 is worth it for its reliability. I have seen these 4.6 motors absolutely abused by a bunch of high schoolers with 200K miles on them. They still start right up and purr. Amazingly :P

Conveniently I have a parts truck with a v8, so the pcm, wiring, trans, etc I have already purchased haha. Didn't know they had 2 different steering racks. It just has a blown motor. Really the only reason I want to do the swap from it to my other one is because the v6 one I have is black. I have a thing for black vehicles. Basically I have about $1500 in buying both trucks.
