i have the average 4.0 ohv with a4ld found in most 1st gen explorers. since im goin to have 35" tires or bigger, im thinking of having some performance mods done, just to get more power for pushing the bigger tires. i will have 4.88 gears, so that should give it most of its power back, but whats the highest amount these trannies can handle?what should i do to gain another 20-30hp?

Intake, TB, exhaust, pulleys, electric fan, synthetic fluids.

Good luck .......

look around and see if you can find a higher ratio roller rocker, that'll boost power at all parts of the rpm range. it depends on how much your willing to do. you might be able to simply swap in a newer ohv 4.0 and get the results your looking for, or use it as a platform to start on. just know what your getting into before you start spanning years. manufactures have a tendncy to change things from one year to the next, almost like they are intnding to piss guys like us off.

high ratio roller rocker- give me more info on this

The trannies are THE weak-link, even in Stock form. Second weak link would be the Head/Head gaskets.

I have a Open Air Filter and Tube(note: I didn't call it a Cold Air Intake, or just 'intake'). I have the BBK Throttle Body. And I have a 2.5" Cat-Back Exhaust, with an Edelbrock RPM Muffler. Although I am swapping in a 5.0L (347) In the future, I will probably also buy the Crank Under Drive Pulley, and when the time comes to pull the 4.0L, all the performance parts will be swapped into my wifes `93 X.
