4.0L problems

I knew I was right lol, sucks that it dropped the valve. I have seen a couple with only 10k on it come in for a miss and get lucky by just replacing broken springs.

Ha it sucks that you was right but i figured as much when you told me that. seemed like the only logical reason that a motor with so few miles would seize.
btw is the 4.6L an interference engine also?
uploading pics now...

4.6L is interference engine for sure. You don't have as many problems with that engine though.

Yep, just researched and like the others said it is.

Hope ya'll enjoy the pics and hope that this don't happen to any of you...

It is not cheaper if you owe $8500 on the on that is BROKE!

 OH SH**! Thats worse than what I thought it'd look like!
$8500 in a repair what all needs to be fixed?

its cheaper to buy a 4.6l explorer then do the conversion.
No, he^^ said that is would be cheaper to just buy an explorer with the 4.6 already in it. And i was replying that i still owe $8500 on this piece of $*#@!

Oh..my bad. Yeah, I agree on that. Its probably a better choice to do a 4.6L swap, then either buying a 4.6L explorer or another 4.0L. You'd lose an awful lot of money if you went to sell it the way it currently is, so I say go for the swap

I primarly have older Ford V8's sitting around i thought about trying to stuff a 302/351W in it but then it would the rearend that would go out. cause they have issues also.

Well I found a 4.6L v8 that is in a 2004 Mustang. If I buy the engine/Transmission and computer/wiring harness. will it fit in my explorer without having to change much?

I would think the only thing that may be different on that is the engine and transmission mounts.

only thing i am wondering about is how would the other sensors the pcm monitors hook up to a mustang pcm.

also exhaust? o2 sensors, ftp, and other bs sensors. and pats?

Guess it don't matter i talked to the guy and it has been raced in the past and i am a little scared to dump more money on something that may or may not last.
Will the transmission that is behind my 4.0 work with a 4.6L? and do i need to be looking for a 4.6L from a Explorer 2003-2005?

then just get a reman 4.0... and have 100k worry free.

well i went and talked to a local auto shop and they quoted me $4100 to install a reman'd 4.0 from jasper. YIKES!
He said that he could put a 4.0 from a junkyard in it for 1500 + 895 to install it! still YIKES!
I asked him if i could just replace the piston if the piston cylinder is not scarred, but he told me there was probably metal shavings scattered throughout the engine, and in order to just put a piston in it, he would have to take the other head off to make sure there wasn't any metal in there from the intake. or in the oil pan.
So any ideas if that is true? i agree that if a valve has beat a piston up the engine could have metal slivers left in it anywhere.
Thanks ya'll i really appreciate the help!

That is very true... I think the engine prices are kind of high

do not put a jaspar engine. those are garbage. and thats expensive. i have never seen a reman jaspar go past 10k with out major problems. ins companies love these engines. pure junk.

there is a site here i think that advertises, there used or new, but decent priced.

also they are correct, engine debris can be everywhere, a taredown , clean , rebuild would be needed to prevent failure of the repair.
