i was wondering if the 4.0 in the sport track is the same as the 4.0 in the '05+ mustangs? i'll share reasons why im asking at a later date, but i was wondering if they are they same, and if not, what the differences are,

thanks guys

I worked at a Ford dealer for some time and they seem to be the same at the core. The differences I noticed was the Mustang engine had more electronic controlled items, like the throttle body. The intake setup and exhausts are different. But as far as I know they are both the 210hp SOHC V6.

Do share your reasons for wondering you got me curious now.

hahaha, ok, well its obvious that i would be wondering for performance goodies. most notably a write up i read in 5.0&MM the other day. 4.0 v6 mustang with nitrous on it. I used to play with nitrous a lot when i was younger and had my mustangs, and have been thinking that it might be fun just to have. i'm weighing the pros and cons right now though, so no conclusive evidence that it will happen....

although i did find out that Nitrous Works used to have a kit designed for the sport track...i dont think the make it anymore.

see I think the core engines are the same, but any bolt on accessories are gonna be totally different.

you know i'm on this forum now for my mom's ST, and I'm sure she would be one to run nitrous in her truck... haha

good luck with it! :)

well from what i can see, if they share the same fuel delivery system and core parts (pistons, cam profiles, etc etc etc) are the same, then it is a candidate for nitrous. what im worried about is weather the mustang version has a stronger short block than the sport trac....and of course there is the transmission, but i look at it as being strong enough to handle maybe a 55-75hp shot.

The core is the same for the Mustang and the Ex. But there are subtle differences like different manifolds(intake),drive by wire throttle, etc. Once doesn't have a stronger block than the other. You should be able to shoot a 50-70 shot on the vehicle easily.I would definately get a tune which backs some timing out while on the juice.-jh

BTW the 5R55E tranny is plenty strong to handle that power. I went 8.27 in the 1/8th with 160K on mine. The secret: Keep your bands adjusted and fluid changed. Otherwise you won't have any problems. I just grew beyond the capabilities of the 5R55E and have since swapped in a 5R55S with a standalone trans controller.

that was kindof my plan...im debating now weather to go with the nitrous as i was planning, or seeing where bolt ons can get me to...i mean theres a lot of things that arent necessarily made for the ex that would work on it with a little out of the box thinking....we'll see.

and what are the differences with the 5r55e and 5r55s?
