Hey everyone, new member here from the Seattle area. Thinking about replacing my aging 1998 Durango with a 3rd gen Explorer. I am intimately familiar with Ford's 4.6L, as I have had a few vehicles with that, and still own one--a 2003 Grand Marquis. However, I have had no experience with the 4.0L V6. Is this a good engine to live with? How is the serviceability, longevity, power/torque? Any weird things about the engine? I don't need a 4WD, not going off road. Just a secondary vehicle to haul things and people when needed. (whenever the Camaro is impractical). Thanks for the help!

Welcome to the forum. Depending on what year Explorer you get there were two 4.0L engines available for the Explorer. The 4.0 OHV (overhead valve) & the 4.0 SOHC (single overhead cam). They both have good & bad points.
