v8 = 302 cubic inches (could be more if you bore it out and stroke it.)

i suggested that he rip out his sohc and put in a v8.

and dont be sorry, ask questions - its the only way to learn ;)

oh, excellent..im somewhat contemplating putting in a V8 as well...prices?

well, the thing is, i dont think anyone has done a 302 conversion in a sport, but theres a first time for everything. its also a bit pricey. it depends on what engine you get, if youre gonna buy any mods and install them at the time of the swap, and your new tranny, too, and if you do it all yourself or have a shop do it. thousands, heh.

expensive :D try a search on it and see what other people have come up with. it's tough to pin point a price because of all the work that's involved with it.

I was thinking a 302 conversion, but im not rich, i could put the money into it with no problem, but is it really worth, couldnt max out at much HP?????

Yeah definitely couldn't get much HP from a 302.......

Uh does that mean, can't max a 302 at much hp? 302s can go over high hundreds, low thousand hp....
I'd think it'd be enough in an explorer....

Yer profile says "DrAsTiC MeAsUrEz Race Team
"NY's #1 Drag Team"
(Drag Master) Joe De Angelis
"Who Says You Can't Build A Supertruck?" "

Yet you know little about making power from a 302?

The SOHC does have forged Rods and pistons, but until the 2003 Cobra I dont know what forged rods they used. Manley H beam forged rods seem to be the way to go. Thats what the new blown cobra has and most of the Lightning guys are building their trucks with them. I figure if you're gonna run big numbers, might as well get the rods replaced with something you KNOW is a good product.

As for the pistons there were some guys that have rangers runnin 15psi on the eaton unit. They took the forged dished pistons out of the 4.0 OHV engine. That might be your only option for forged dished pistons.

If you have the money for a 3500 blower and the install and tuning, that should get you a nice 302 block and change left over I would think. I guess it depends on how seriously you want power and how long you plan to keep it.

never said i didnt know how 2 build 1 i was just curious about the power that could b put into it....

First of all a supercharger is to inefficent to use and allmost all newer cars and trucks can handel aroud 7psi with an intercooler. A turbo is the ony whay to go. the engergy is free from the engine and plus its about half the price of a supercharger and as long as you don't go over 7 psi you should be able to handel it. with out fuel system upgrades and ecu reprorgaming.

except putting a turbo on an X is a royal PITA.

Well when I'm finished with mine we'll see how easy/hard it was to do it. It's not as hard as it seems it would be if you have the right tools. When this one is finished I'll be pumping em out for anyone that wants one more than likely. And I think the design as of now will even fit on an EX that doesn't have a BL.

I guess time will tell, but I'm sure there are some people out there that would love to pick up a turbo for their EX. And for a cheaper price than the SuperCharger.

Amen.

I got some bad news for you, spark plug wires do not add horsepower as those rice runners like to beleive. All wires do is increase your spark and let it floe with less resistance

Klown, how much performance would the turbo do.

relatively the same as a supercharger, without the parasitic power loss, but i wanna know where youre gonna get a turbo for cheaper than a supercharger? then youre gonna have to fabricate EVERYTHING for it. it would be damn cool, but way too much trouble.

Turbo for an X huh? This is a new 1 who has the designs for this, plus it's gotta b tested, then mass produced and for how much, any glitches? Alot of questions can be risen about a turbo but if explorer express can build a supercharger (and they suck as it is) they i guess you can design a turbo, and if it works GOD BLESS you and i'll buy the first 1!!!

if you want performance go to www.vanirtech.com

they build 4.0 race engines for baja trucks and what ever else. ive talked to those guys a few times and they know just about everything you would want to know and what to use.

they are hard to get ahold of and if your not a racer there hard to work with but if you got doh and use it you can do anything.

"It's only as fast as the amount of money you put into it."

IMO the wine of a supercharger is way cooler than the sound of a turbo.

weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Ford Lightnings RULE
