Ok. Front gears have to be the exact same ratio as the rear. Have to swap both ends at the same time.

Gear swaps needs to be done by an experienced tech.

There is another way tho. Ford made 410 axles for these rigs. You can simply swap the complete axle assemblies.

Gear ratio codes are on the door sticker, and tags on the axles. You can decipher the codes here, in the trans differential sub forum. Once you know the proper code, you can start searching for the axles.

Dare I ask why? It would hinder highway driving because it limits your top speed and keeps you in a higher rev at cruising speed. You'd get off the line a little faster around town, but still won't win many drag races. You don't even need it for better modulation off-roading because with 4WD you have Lo gear?

Unless you have a really good reason for doing that swap, stick with the 3.73s.

I put in 4.10s, replacing the OEM 3.73s. It was easy, just do as Gman said and find some low mileage salvage Explorer 4.10s. The rear axle I bought was even a Limited Slip. I upgraded to 4.10s because I wanted the extra pull for my camper, and also for off roading after putting the larger tires on it.
