Having a head scratcher,
2002 4.6l has 178k miles
Intake is 2-3 years old and idle control valve and throttle position sensors 1 1/2 years old

Car has been idling at 3,000 RPM's

I changed out the idle air control valve with no luck (I've replaced 3 and it's always been the issue), so I returned the part.

So, I changed out the throttle position sensor, still no luck, its idling at 2,000 rpm now.

Found a small vacuum leak and took care of that issue with still no luck.

Zero cel codes until I start unplugging stuff.

So I reset the VATS? Either way... I unhooked both terminals and hooked a small wire to each and let it set 5 min and it's fine, drove it to relearn the trans and such and so far no issues.

Did you buy a cheap AutoZone idle air control valve or a motorcraft one.

Reading reviews anyone who buys the cheap one realizes it doesn't work
