2002 4.6L Exploder
Have a 2002 explorer v8. Was driving the other day, and the vehicle died without warning turning out of my neighbourhood. It would not start after. Had it towed, shop took a look. Originally it was thought to be the computer, i picked up a new pcm, turns out it wasn't that. Thought the timing belt slipped. Had the motor opened up and something happened with the rocker arms. The shop claimed it be easier to swap a new motor than to rebuild.

How did this specific problem happen? I was told that the timing chain was intact and not loose. Ill try to get more details on the motor. The exploder had regular maintenance and oil changes. Didn't even get a check engine light or notice misfires or noises coming from the motor.

Last, will a 03 motor work in my 02? Or am i best to pick up an 02?

Thanks

Hi, I was wondering how many miles did it have on it. Can't help with an answer, but curious why it died.

Thanks. Good luck with getting it back on the road. This forum is usually very helpful

Go to car-part.com. Sort by distance from your zip code. It will show availability of engines near you. It usually lists mileage, part condition, (go for grade a), and the name, address and phone number of the yard that has it. I looked in my area, it only showed 2002 for that truck, so I'm guessing that is what you will need to stick with. There were a lot of engines in my area available, so you should have similar luck. I use this site every day, and have almost always get results. Good Luck!
