Hi, How many quarts of motor oil needed for the V8 4.6 Liter Ford Explorer during oil change including oil filter replacement?

Should be 6 quarts I believe.

Just did mine, I used 6.5QTs - Mobil 1.

Hi jrford, what oil filter did you use?

Hi jrford, what brand of oil filter did you put in? I did mine last night using Mobil 1 oil filter and Mobil 1 (5-20) synthetic oil and only use exactly 6 qts.

does it really make a different using synthetic? i just got a 2003 limited with 80K on it do you think i should start using synthetic or this is just a waste of $?

Little over 6 quarts. I use Syn mainly because my wife drive it about 25k a year! Could go 10 without changing it but I stick to about 7500 just to be safe.

Mobile 1 5-20w and Motorcraft Filter, seems to have a pressure relief spring in it while the other cheap ones don't (except for the expensive ones). Got it first taste of Mobile one at 10k, changing every 4-5k now at 25k. Also to since using Mobil one, posted 21mpg on the highway, 70mph, for 400 miles.
