At first glance, it appears that my chain guides are in good shape. They seem to be intact and not fragmented in the engine.
I'm doing the timing due to the rattle at start up. The WOT trick has helped get me to this point by priming the oil pump and the failing tensioner. At which point it's ran fine.
Manually turning the crank to find TDC yesterday primed the bad tensioner and the loose chain is taught.
Here's my question.
I'd bought a complete timing kit, expecting the worse and I like to "replace all" when I'm already at a certain point. However, I'm now thinking that all I need to replace are the guides and the tensioners.
Leaving the gears and chains in place.
Any thoughts on this?
I'd also planned on swapping the oil pump while there, but I've read that these types of pumps rarely have issues.
Again, with it all open, I thought about doing it all and I currently have all the parts. Including the special tools.
But if these parts (chains, gears/pulleys, and oil pump) don't really need replaced, then I could save some $$$.
