Hey, so I'm going to attempt to do my own transmission service tomorrow and was wondering what exactly do I need to do this? Looking to do a standard transmission fluid change and replace the filter. How much fluid, what tools, parts, and do I have to have one of those adapters or can I just shove the hose inside the pan? Probably will go ahead and do the transfer case as well if y'all recommend it.
Thank you.

If you havent watched this video yet it's good. He describes what you need especially the fitting for the fill portion.

About six quarts of MercV for the transmission. Get one of the pumps that screw onto the bottle, looks like a soap dispenser. Yes do the transfer case too but I'm not going to mention the fluid type.

Drained the pan and replaced the filter, but when I refilled it, it only took about 4.5 quarts.. Went back and checked it again after I did some driving to make sure everything worked fine. Did everything the video said to do. Transfer case took about 1.5 quarts. And no, I did not use the same fluid for both.

Just curious how did your old fluid look?

Transmission fluid was very dark, almost black. Transfer case fluid wasn't all that dark like I thought it would be, not clean by any measures, but not as bad as the transmission.
