have a 1994 Explorer with the automatic A4LD. Was wondering on changing fluid/filter, if return line could be disconnected, start engine and idle in PARK? thus hopefully draining the system..............Possible thoughts of burning up the transmission :thumbdwn: have been holding me back from trying miss method without feedback from others. THX, any input would be greatly appreciated as I'm still a newbie to this preventive maintenance. Love getting my hands dirty working on my own vehicle. :)

That is the way that I flushed my transmission. You can't drain the transmission this way though only flush it. Therefore if you are going to change the filter the pan will still need to be dropped while full and the fluid drained that way. If you just want to change the ATF though just start the truck until a quart has drained and shut it off. Then refill with another quart and repeat. Don't let the trans get lower than 2 quarts low.
