Hey all,

I was looking to get some replacement shocks at Autozone (the Gabriel VSTs) and they have a rebate going until July 31st. If you buy 4 Gabriel shocks you get one for free. Basically $75 for your shocks (for the VSTs). I don't have any experiance with them but many on the board say they are good for a cheap replacement so I figured I'd give them a shot.

Gabriel has changed the name to "Ultras". I called them today to confirm because I was only able to find one store that had the VSTs and I wanted to make sure that the Ultras weren't different. They said it was a simple name change.

Just thought I'd pass on the info.

Did you get them? And how is is the ride if you did?

Yes I did (although I didn't get my rebate check yet  ). The ride is much more comfortable now and I kinda look forward to going over bumps where before I would "punch up my butt cheeks" before I did. It seems to absorb the bad pavement much better and was well worth the $75.

I'm not saying that Ranchero adjustables wouldn't be better, but the price tag on them was more than I wanted to spend. All and all the installation was pretty easy. If your looking for cheap shocks I think they are a good choice. Oh, my factory shocks only had 34K on them but they all seemed pretty shot.

The only thing I don't like is the color of them is white. You can't tell in the front, but from the rear you can see them. I liked the black factory ones but it's not the end of the world.

Oh, one last thing - It is still a truck - don't expect a caddilac ride from it no matter what shocks you get.

Thanks Spta97.
I am all tied up between the Gabriel Max/vst, Monroe Sensatrac & the Rancho5000.

I've been looking at new shocks as well. Either the Ranchos or those Edelbrock IAS from the EE X-spec suspension. Not sure if I'll get the whole package... it's kinda expensive. Those front and rear sway bars would be nice to have though...

Try searching for opinions. I've found that people were less than happy with the Monroe's siting that the ride was too rough. Everyone seems to love the Rancharos but most people get the 9000s.

I dont want to 9000 because I dont want to spend that much money. May trade truck soon.
