4 Lo light blinking

Had truck stuck on the edge of the river on the weekend. Wouldn't come out of 4 Lo for an hour after.Tried using 4 hi after and it kept clunking like the transfer case was slipping..... Anyone know what it could be?

did you have the vehicle in neutral when trying to disengage the 4lo? sounds like the shift motor was not working.

I had the same problem with my Explorer. Tranny shop said it was from lack of use. I just bought this one and so that's what I would assume my problem is. I use 4hi often and would like to use 4lo but it takes forever for it to switch and sometimes or most times it just won't. Maybe we share the same problem. I am going to learn how to fix it and if I remember I will post my results.

My 92 XLT does the same thing. If it's not used the shift motor can get all gummed up.
