What's the difference between having the tranny in D1 vs. being in 4 Lo? Any benefit to being in 4 Lo and also putting into D1? Is there different gearing for just the front tires in 4 Lo?
Thanks!

There is a huge difference between 4low and D1:

-D1 keeps your TRANSMISSION from shifting out of first gear.
-4low puts your TRANSFER CASE in low gear.
The transfer case in our trucks is a 2.48 to 1 gear ratio. 4low applies that ratio to both your front and rear axles. If you were to put the truck in 4low and D1, it is just REALLY SLOW! I'm guessing a top speed of about 10 mph.

d1 is no diff then od exept that the transmision will no shift out of 1st gear 4lo on the other hand is a hudge diffrence in tourqe and gearing 1st and 4lo combined is not a good idea sence you will only be able to go like 5mph and also no 4 lo is a lower gear for all wheels and if you have front lockouts you can use 4 lo as 2lo

Cool, thanks for the posts. So basically, 4 lo will give more torque and power in those tight, slow situations. Otherwise 4 hi is 1:1 gearing for regular driving (in the snow, etc.)?

Just remember.. don' tuse 4x4 on hard pavement. Tires don't all spin at the same speed when your turning and something has to give. Hopefully its a tire slipping on the ground, but if it can't slip it can break things (like u-joints, hubs etc)
