Hi folks,

Decisions, decisions... I don't like re-inventing the wheel, so I'm here...

Hers '93 is a stocker, with the easy mods. (airbox opened up, etc..)
Looking someday to lift it two inches, and 31x10.50 it. Not really part of the discussion. It's a DD that tows stuff occasionally.

I totaled a 92 2wd recently. It's a donor!

There's a '95 Limited out back, nice truck, no title.. It's a donor!

The project is the '92 4wd. It's an unfinished project from a friend of mine. Rear axle over spring mod, and skyjacker parts up front with a Ranger front axle assy. Motor has puked, diff. ratio's don't match (3.45 front, unknown X rear), few other oddities to deal with. Rear stock mounts aren't there (axle side), and shock selection is eminent.

From reading, I see that X's never used 3.45, so.... that ratio is too high for 33x12.50 anyway. So out it comes.. I'd be happy with 3.73 for temporary.. being that's pretty commonly available. Things that don't drive get robbed for parts around here.

Short term is get it running, while a better DD is found for me. Long term is to take it as far as budgets allow, and maintain reliability.

The '95 is donoring it's motor, and I see a thread or two mentioning what needs swapped. Motor mount brackets, y pipe ('92 single O2 sensor) and stuff, obvious.
About the upper intake and fuel rails... I see different vacuum connects, that's a work-around. The Incoming Air Temp. sensor locates differently, can work around that too. (seemed silly to put an air temp sensor in the intake anyway, and not near the filter)
The fuel line connects look the same, as does the injector connects. The wiring harness' chassis-side differ, but the motor connects look the same (at a glance).
Before I make big blunders, what am I missing on that front?

I do kinda like the big '95 alternator.. might keep the '95 belt and stuff, if I can. Would like to go to electric cooling fans immediately too, and have that extra charging for HAM radios and whatnots too.

Whatever short-term hurdles I'm missing, help is appreciated!

Long term - will be looking for 4.10 gears, building a motor with the '95 heads on first gen short block (10:1), and a moderate cam. Other things as suggested, that won't hurt my wallet too much.

Been looking a bit for the bigger MAF housings, both get intake piping soon, etc... as time permits. So much to do!

Will spring for the elite fee.. yes what I've found already saved me more than $20 in gas alone!!!

Lotsa big cans of worms I'm opening in one thread. Links are fine, if that's all someone would want to post. Any post appreciated!

Thanks!

...Sounds like a lot of fun..:biggthump:

...You may find some useful info in the "How To" in my signature...;)

You could part out whats left of 95 to make some money back;).... and if you were to do such a thing what color is it and is the drivers door and all its internals in good condition?

Oh yea, I plan to part out quite a bit.. anything I dont use on her DD and my DD/future toy.

But, then, I do need to up the $20 and put that in the "for sale" section.. yes? (hey, is this a test? lol)

FYI, this '95 is spotless Black, grey leather interior, fully loaded. Sadly, the drivers door window isn't functional... I sold the mirrors and noted a 2x2 board holding the window up. Maybe the gear is just stripped, I really dont know.

The rear disks are getting grabbed, and I might use a few other doo-dads.. possibly the leveling system (or parts of it) for hers.. time will tell!

What about the door? does it unlock and lock freely and do both inside and outside handles work?
Yea you should look into becoming a member, not only does it help the site but it provides you with a lot of cool features like being able to upload pics directly from your hardrive to your post(and its sometimes alot easier for us to help you with a problem if you post a pic of what your talking about). I'm telling you if it wasnt for this site my explorer wouldnt be anywhere where its at right now and with all the helpful info and shortcuts you'll get from browsing the site the 20bucks is well worth it.

Stabbed it all together today. went well. wish I had an electric fan on a shelf!

that door... yea, I think all the doohickies worked, besides the window itself. I'll check in the morning.

thanks for the plug on elite membership. never thought of myself as "elitist" before. :)

Drove it home today! Bouncy, bouncy (no rear shocks.. heh)!

Runs like a dream.. extremely smooth, no engine noise whatsoever!!! Yeay!

Used 95 alternator and bracket, 92 upper plenum but kept the 95 fuel rail. Liked the look of the 95 plenum, but didnt wanna fool with plugging that EGR hole.

Everything went as planned, no real suprises.

Next up: rear shock mounts and alignment, need some matching axles! and a radio! :)

Ah I see your ELITE now:D
Your making pretty good progress so far, Looks like pics are in order;)

Ack. Pics. Yes. I have to borrow a camera. The dog really did eat mine!

I do some wrenching on my own stuff... just popped heads on my 78 f150 4x4, working part time in a motorbike shop too...

I know firsthand how saving it is (Time and Money!) to get (or give) info and help on things.. This site saved me a bunch already, figgered I'd give some back (Elite membership)...

One Pic, it's a start. gotta upload more. :)
