So I'm trying to change the rims off of my moutaineer and put some 2003 17 inch explorer rims on it, which can be done the wheel size comes down to be the same and the load limit is no change so everything is good. The problem is when I go to put it on the hub is bigger than the center of the rim and it won't seat right on the hub? What is my problem are these rums not compatible with my truck?

CORRECT
The Gen III wheels do not always just bolt onto a Gen II

You can run adapters or spacers or drill out the center of the wheel?? Pics would help
These wheels also have a different offset and will bring the tires closer to the truck
Maybe not the best wheel choice unless you want to go through all of that!

So I uploaded some pictures, I got two pictures of what I have on the truck right now.. and I have three pictures of what I want to put on the truck.. and your correct about the offset being different the one I have on there have a zero offset where as the xlt rims have a positive offset, I cant add any more pictures until I get my truck back from the shop... but I was looking at spacers, and I like the idea of widening the wheel base by an inch, inch in a half, which brings up more questions like what does adding spacers do to the offset of my wheel?

Id also like to add that I was wrong I want to put 16" imch rims on it not 17"... I also would like to add that the tire size is different where as what i have on it now is 235 75 r15 and what i want to put on there is 235 70 r16.. idk, I feel that this rim is compatible with this truck, and they are alot nicer than the beat up ones I got now.. id hate to have to sell these..

That style of rim seems to be a problem, I have read of those not fitting other trucks also, the 98-2010 Ranger is what I think I saw someone trying to put them on long ago. I've used Sport Trac wheels on my 98 Mercury, and I have a 3rd gen 17" wheel as a spare(275/60 tire). You might try to find those, they have the same offset as 2nd gen Explorers. The 3rd gens are about an inch different in offset, 44mm, and the 91-01's are around 20-25mm.

The hub size fitment is a big deal, you don't want to have to use spacers, which are less safe than without them.

The 16" stock tire size was 255/70/16, so you can use that size if you get a 16" wheel to fit. I run 245/70/16" tires when the price is better, when I'm hunting tires. The 30" tire diameter is the ideal size for the speedometer of all 91-01 Explorers. Other sizes alters the accuracy, 29" tires make it show a speed faster than you are driving(which is better than to be slower).

Not compatible, a good quality set of wheel spacers is possible but a hassle to have to keep checking torque, and could cost near as much as just getting compatible used rims.

If you check the link above you will see the important parameters of your original rims including the 12mm offset, 5 x114.3mm lug pattern and 70.6mm center bore. You can then use that site to look up other vehicles to see if their stock rims are compatible.
