Greetings, Folks!

Planning to upgrade my stock front and rear sway bar bushings on my 96 5.0 Limited 2wd with polys. The rear bar measures 18mm and the front measures a whooping 40mm! Most poly bushings in kits measure 36mm for the front, which would be too small or would it? I am guessing the larger size is due to its being a 5.0 V-8.

Anyone with a 96-97 5.0 Limited switched to poly bushings for their stock sway bars and located a kit for a 40mm front bar? Thanks Mike

Nope, the wopping size has to do with the fact that it is hollow. You got the same swaybar that a 2WD, V6 Sport would get. Ford upgraded the swaybar to a solid bar in '98 that is of a smaller diameter than the '95-'97. The advantage being that it is solid. I'm not sure what kit you are looking at. I bought the poly swaybar bushing kit from Performance Accessories a couple of years ago and the bushings fit my huge (hollow) swaybar easily.

I would recommend changing both sway bars to beefier ones ( splid for the front ) as well as the poly vushings.

You will be amazed in the difference.

Poly bushings are available from Explorer Express as well as other places.

Good luck.....

I cought some flack for kind of absent mindedly passing by Hank's product. I believe he sells poly bushings. Might give that a try. Dead Link Removed

Ooops... sorry Hank for not mentioning your bushings, Since ine is a late model and you STILL don't have any for me, I forgot. Sorry.

Yes, I was aware the large 40mm front bar was hollow. Probably will go with just poly bushings with the OE swaybars. I have upgraded John Baker swaybars on my 93 and poly bushings. I am convinced just replacing the bushings on my 96 will be a big improvement and is very cost effective. Thanks Mike
