Alright.. Some of you know that my transfer case and my transmission started acting up this past weekend. Let me give you a run down on the symptoms.

After approximately an hour or so of driving, my RPMS were atleast 1000 above what they should be. From a stop, I had no movement in D or R but it 2nd and 1st. I checked the fluid and it was low so I topped it off. After running it thru the gears, there was no change until I put my foot on the ground and pushed toward the direction I wanted to go. Which subsequently caused my O/D light to flash but it went in gear none the less. I plan on doing a manual flush on the transmission and filter change hoping that will be the cause since the fluid has over 60K miles on it (whoops) and was never flushed since I had it at 40K miles.

The transfer case is also having issues. In 4WD on the skinny pedal, you can hear the transfer case clanking. I suspect the chain on the transfer case is stretched a bit.

Does anyone think the lack of Drive & Reverse and the transfer case could be related? I'm wondering since I can push the truck and it'll go in gear.

Also should I do a flush first and then change the tranny filter or vice versa?

Flushed the fluid, changed the filter and replaced the EPC solenoid and its much better.. Incidentally, this is not what the fluid should look like

sounds like you fixed your problem didnt glacier tell you the epc was probably the culprit if he did (you nailed it again glacier) and yes that fluid is a little to dark does the transfer case still clank?

I'm thinking your correct in that the engagement issue is probably transfer case related.

I'm still having the issue. Then again after driving for 30 minutes I notice the fluid was low so I topped it off. I'm gonna double check the fluid again to see if it dropped. If so, I suspect I'm loosing fluid from a seal somewhere.

It could also just be that after you filled it, all the circuits and TC had not yet been filled. Do not automatically assume a leak, just yet. bring it back up and then if it does it AGAIN, THEN suspect a leak.

Yeah I'm gonna let it sit for the night since the garage is currently filled up with my sister vehicle. I'll work on it again in the morning. I suspect that it wasn't low, that it just didn't go thru the areas of the tranny. I placed a piece of white cardboard on the floor under the tranny & transfer case in case it is leaking so I know since there are so many stains in the driveway to begin with.
