So after searching the forums for a few months i want to try and tackle the t case switch to a 4406 for more power and trail riding. So ive summed this up for what is needed and i have a few questions
Needed
-4.6L Exped/Navig/F-150 t case 97 - 98 due to the speed sensor located inside and not in the rear diff (like on the 98+ Ex's/Mountys)
-All the wiring Harnesses
-Bezel with switch (electric shift motor not manual)
-97 GEM from 4.0 Explorer
-Sport Gas Tank?
-Drive Shaft from Exped/Navig/f-150
-New U-joints?

Questions

How much time has this taken people? I've looked around and it seems that by using the date of the posts 5 days to a few weeks but that involves problems, such as super lift, manual shift and such. Just wondering as my Mounty is my DD and want to make sure that its back on the road in a least a few weeks

Second is money, seems like its around 500-600 dollars? Does this seem reasonable, I'm in college so i only make money around summer.

Are any special tools needed? Like special sockets and so on? just wanted to make sure I had all these so I don't get stuck

Do you actually need a sport gas tank, or can you use BFH and pound away for clearance

And lastly, i know this is a strange one, but how heavy is the sucker?

First off let me thank all the members for putting up very usefull threads which I have read many a times, and will continue reading until the day finally comes, Did i miss anything? feel free to be a critic and leave comments, any help would be appreciated

It seems like you are talking about swapping in an electric shift/TOD 4406 like I did. If so, you NEED to swap gas tanks. If you want to do a swap with a manual t-case, then you do not need to swap gas tanks, but do need a shift linkage instead of the electronics.

I take it you've read my thread:
http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=97181

which outlines what you need to go through to swap in the electric 4406.

Get yourself a good way to support the t-cases going out and in, they are heavy.

As for driveshafts, as your junkyard or search car-part.com for:
Rear: 1998 Expedition with 5.4 and Air Suspension
Front: 2000 F150 V6
