460 F-350 1990, I just bought one. Crew cab and a dually to boot. Will a MSD help my gas mileage and would putting in an older timing gear set ( pre '75 I guess ) help a little in the power dept. I only use it for towing an enclosed car trailer. 7,000 pounds of trailer with car inside.

my parents had a 96. dont know about the ignition, but i wouldnt even bother trying to get better mileage. theirs got 12mpg with 3:55's and my mom driving. basically, trying to get mileage out of a 460 is like trying to squeeze blood from a turnip. get the exhaust re-done with some 2.5" duals, and cut the stock airbox. that will help alot in the power department.
