Yesterday I was off roading. I ended up getting stuck and put in 4 low to try and get it out. Didnt help and when I went to take it out it wouldn't come out. Even in neutral with the brakes down. I got pulled out from where I was stuck and it still wouldn't come off of 4 low. I'm not sure if just the light is stuck or what because doesnt act like I'm in 4 low now, the light just wont go away on my dash and wont change when I flip the switch. I dont know if my 4wd is even working now. It drives fine on the road and I cant tell if there is any pull from the front. When I flip the switch to 4H or 4L it doesnt do anything. Could I have messed something up or could my switch need to be replaced?

Have you tried disconnecting the battery for a bit?

First off make sure it is not still in Low range. If you drive it around on the street in Low range you will waste all kinds of stuff in no time. Look at your Tach if you have one to see where your revs are.

Your shift motor is not working correctly on the transfer case. I had the same issue with my 95 after getting stuck in a snowbank. It would shift, but slow response and the light was not always right. There is a multi-contact rotary switch on the back of the shift motor that was messed up with mine. Do a search for "shift motor" and you will find a bunch of great info.

turns out it was the lights fault. just had to reset the computer by unplugging the battery
