4x4 light stuck on, 94 xlt

My 4 wheel drive has givin me problems for a long time, first it got stuck in 4 low a year ago and came out after banging the motor lightly. then the other day i tried seeing if it would go into 4 wheel drive it did but the light didnt go off when it disengaged, if the light is on does that mean its taking more gas from me? becuase it thinks its in 4 wheel drive????

Is it really in 4wd? If its not I don't think it would use more gas. Have you tried cleaning the shift motor?

I got it open and all the motor, the wires have been cut but put back together i cant figure this **** out i replaces the broken rubber stop inside disconnected the battery still the 4x4 light is stuck on and wont go off when i press the button, so tomarrow im gonna mess with it somemore, anyone have any fricken advice, by the way is it ok to drive with the whole motor off the car? haha
