4R55E to 5R55E ?????

Is the 4R55E interchangeable with 5R55E with 4X4 on a 1998 4.0 SOHC Sport. my 4R is shot, but I found a R5 same year, is this a bolt in unit? what other years will work?

I'd like to be able to give you a definitive answer.... yet I cannot. I know there are some differences in rebuild on the 4R44, 4r55 and 5R55, but not having experience with these to a greatdegree I cannot say coinfidently you can swap a 5R in the place of a 4R. Maybe someone else can be or more help.

When I do not know, I am not embarassed to say so. I do not know. Sorry.
