The tranny (4R55E) in my '96 XLT 4.0 ohv 4x4 is starting to slip just a little (100k miles). A Ford tranny tech said it was doing pretty good but maybe a bit soft on the shifts. I brought it to him due to a slip around 3000-3500 rpm in second gear at WOT.
Anyway, after some searching here I have found a TSB that calls for replacement of the seperator plate and installation of Valve Body Service Kit # 1L5Z-7M203-JA.
I plan on doing this along with replacement of the intermediate and OD solenoid pistons. The tech suggested this due to the pistons becoming hard from the heat of the cat.
My question really is: does anyone know what parts are included in the Valve Body Service Kit listed above? Is this even necessary or can I just replace the seperator and upper/lower gaskets?
Additional info: Fluid and filter just changed. Valve body bolts were a bit loose. Tightened them up but would like to replace gaskets/update seperator. No fluid found in vacuum lines.
Thanks for any input.
Sean.
